Kiem District)
1hr or more depending on traffic
There are 5 options:
Vietnam Airline Mini Bus

I chose this option. The 16 seats bus parked
on right side in front of the terminal. The last stop is Vietnam Airline Office
at Quang Trung Street just a few metres from south of Huan Kiem Lake. Downside
is the bus depart when full that 30min for waiting sometime.
Limousine / Airport Taxi
Convenient and most expensive
Metered Taxi
Think of rush hour or drive around or fake and
fast metered in advance.
Transfer service from hotel
From 18USD at the time of my visit
No need to study how to reach the hotel
location, suitable for big size and large number of luggage, and kid
companions. Hassle free fixed rate.

The cheapest fare with last stop at Kim Ba Bus

Around Hanoi
Mostly I traveled on foot
Vietnam is notorious for taxi and moto taxi
SCAM. Better to ask the hotels staffs to call metered taxis, they contact the
drivers regularly and select the reliable for customers.
Mai Linh and Hanoi Tourist Taxi are
acceptable.
Moto taxi and cyclo need to agree on price
beforehand.
For me I did much homework about traveling and
transportation in Vietnam. Google map could provide the directions and
distance. Knowing the distance of our destinations is importance. Asking the
locals may not the good idea.
I stayed on Hang Dieu Street in Old Quarter on
the half way from Huan Kiem Lake to Thang Long Citadel. I reached both areas on
foot. The last night I stayed at hotel on Ngo Quyen Street on the east side of
Huan Kiem Lake. So I walked around the Opera House area conveniently.
